Want even more protection with alternative therapy coverage in your pet insurance policy? You can add two optional endorsements to your core Trupanion policy.
Recovery and Complementary Care cover
The Trupanion policy is there for unexpected health issues that come up during your pet’s lifetime.
In addition to the core Trupanion policy, your pet can have even more protection with our optional Recovery and Complementary Care endorsement. This provides cover for alternative therapy and treatments that go above and beyond normal veterinary medicine to help continue healing after your veterinarian’s first course of treatment ends. For example:
- After an accident, physical therapy or hydrotherapy can help get your pet back on their paws after any surgeries or treatment.
- If your pet is eating something they shouldn’t, alternative treatments and behavioural therapy can help correct issues after the item leaves their system.
What It Covers
For an additional cost, you can add this package that complements Trupanion’s core policy with 90% cover for:
Acupuncture
Insertion of needles into specific points in the body to cause a desired healing effect.
Behavioural Modification
A systematic approach to changing behaviour, including reactions to a situation, person, object, animal, etc.
Chiropractic Treatment
Spinal manipulation and/or manual therapy to induce healing.
Hydrotherapy
Swimming in a pool or tank or walking on an underwater treadmill to aid healing or conditioning.
Rehabilitative Therapy
Therapeutic exercises to help pets recover from health conditions resulting from illness, trauma, or surgery.
Naturopathy
Treatment that emphasizes the use of natural agents (air, water, and herbs) and physical means (tissue manipulation and electrotherapy).
Like with all Trupanion cover, alternative treatments must be given by or under the supervision of a registered veterinarian, and cannot be covered if the condition being treated is pre-existing. Waiting periods apply when adding this to your core cover. We love informed decisions. See our policy for full cover details.
Pet Owner Assistance Package
The Trupanion policy is designed to help pets get the care they need—but we know that pet owners can use a little support too. Trupanion’s Pet Owner Assistance Package can help “fill in” gaps for costs that don’t relate directly to your pet’s health but may still catch you unawares.
As with all insurance products, terms and conditions apply to our endorsement covers. Be sure to read the policy and rider details or speak with a Trupanion Member Specialist if you have questions.
What it covers
Third-party property damage liability cover
Is your pet really, REALLY into chewing? We’ll pay up to $25,000 in compensatory damages if your pet accidentally damages someone else’s property.
Advertising & reward for lost pets
When your pet’s lost or stolen, you need to get the word out. We’ll pay up to $500 toward lost pet ads—including any reward you offer for the return of your pet.
Boarding fees
Do you have a plan for your pets if you have an accident? If you’re hospitalised for more than 4 days, we’ll pay up to $500 (up to $25/day) for you to board your pet at a licensed kennel or cattery.
Holiday cancellation fees
Having your holiday disrupted because of a pet emergency is bad enough. We’ll pay up to $1000 for cancelled travel and accommodation expenses you’re unable to recover if your pet needs urgent, life-saving care while you’re on holiday—or up to 7 days before you leave.
Cremation or burial
We’re here for you when you need help most. If your pet passes from an accident or illness, we will pay up to $100 for cremation or burial expenses.
We love informed decisions. See our policy for full cover details.
